This policy explains what personal data Scoopim ("Scoopim", "we", "us") collects when you use the website scoopim.com and the Scoopim apps for Android and iOS (together, the "Service"), why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.

1. Data we collect
Account data. When you sign up we collect your username, email address and password (stored only as a salted hash). You may add a display name, avatar, cover image, bio and profile fields.
Sign in with Google. If you choose "Continue with Google", Google shares your name, email address, profile picture and a Google account identifier with us. We use them only to create and sign in to your Scoopim account. We do not get your Google password, contacts, Gmail, Drive or any other Google data, and we do not post to Google on your behalf. Our use of information received from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Content you create. Threads, posts, comments, votes, communities you create or moderate, messages, reports, bookmarks and uploaded images or videos. Public content is visible to anyone, including visitors who are not signed in and search engines. Direct messages are visible only to their participants and, when a message is reported, to moderators handling the report.
Technical data. IP address, browser or device type, operating system, app version, language and time zone, collected in server logs to run the Service, prevent abuse and fix errors.
Cookies and local storage. We use essential cookies for sign-in sessions, security (CSRF protection), and your preferences such as language and theme. If advertising is enabled (section 4), our ad partners may set their own cookies, subject to your consent where the law requires it.
Push notifications. If you allow notifications in the app or browser, we store a push token for your device so we can tell you about replies, mentions, messages and follows. Notification content is encrypted between our server and your device.
Anti-spam checks. Our sign-up form uses hCaptcha, which may process your IP address and browser data to tell humans from bots, under hCaptcha's privacy policy.
Embedded posts from Telegram and X. Some threads are public posts from Telegram channels and X accounts, shown as embedded posts with a credit and a link to the original. They are not posts of Scoopim users. When you open one, your browser loads the embed from Telegram or X, which may receive your IP address and set cookies under their own policies (Telegram, X). To run this we keep only the channel or account name, the address and ID of the post, the headline we show and what happened to the post (posted or skipped, and why). Apart from the small preview picture that every shared link gets in a thread (stored on our servers, as for any link), we do not copy or re-host the original pictures or videos, and the post text we use to avoid duplicates is deleted within 48 hours. Where a headline is written with the help of an AI service (Anthropic's Claude), the text of the public post is sent to that service for that purpose only.
2. How we use data
- To provide the Service: accounts, feeds, communities, messaging and notifications.
- To keep the Service safe: preventing spam, fraud and abuse; enforcing our Terms; handling reports.
- To communicate with you: account verification, password reset, and service notices. We do not send marketing email without your consent.
- To improve the Service: aggregated, non-identifying usage statistics.
- To show ads, where enabled (section 4).
Legal bases (EEA/UK users): performance of our contract with you, our legitimate interests in running a safe service, your consent (ad cookies, push notifications), and legal obligations.
3. Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with:
- Service providers that host and operate the Service for us (servers in the EU, email delivery, push delivery via Google Firebase Cloud Messaging and Apple Push Notification service), under confidentiality obligations.
- Google when you use Sign in with Google, and hCaptcha for sign-up checks, as described above.
- An AI service (Anthropic, for Claude), only where headlines of embedded posts are written with it: it receives the text of the public post, never your account data.
- Advertising partners (Google AdSense / AdMob) where ads are enabled, as described in section 4.
- Authorities, when required by law or to protect the rights and safety of users and the public.
4. Advertising
The Service may show ads, including from Google AdSense (web) and Google AdMob (apps). These partners may use cookies or device advertising identifiers to show and measure ads. In the EEA, UK and Switzerland we ask for consent before personalised ads. On iOS we ask permission before tracking under App Tracking Transparency. You can opt out of personalised Google ads at adssettings.google.com and reset your device advertising ID in your phone settings. We never show ads inside direct messages.
5. Retention
We keep account data while your account exists. Server logs are kept for up to 90 days. When you delete your account we delete or anonymise your personal data within 30 days, except where we must keep it for legal reasons or to resolve abuse reports.
6. Your rights and choices
- Access and export: request a copy of your data from support@scoopim.com.
- Correct: edit your profile and content at any time.
- Delete: delete your account in Settings → Account → Delete account, in the app or on the website, or email support@scoopim.com.
- Notifications: turn them off in Settings or in your device settings.
- Google access: remove Scoopim's access at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
- Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or Israel's Privacy Protection Law), you may also object to or restrict processing and complain to your data protection authority.
7. Children
Scoopim is not for children under 13 (or under 16 where local law requires). We do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has an account, contact us and we will delete it.
8. Security
We use TLS encryption in transit, hashed passwords, isolated servers and access controls. No service is perfectly secure; please use a strong, unique password.
9. Changes
We will post changes on this page and update the date above. For significant changes we will notify you on the Service or by email.
